Why Does Your Why Matter?

When I first start working with most business owners, I hear a lot of, ‘What should I do….’ and ‘How do I…..’ So few can clearly articulate the Why’s behind their business.

Why?

Why am I in business? Why does it matter to me? Why do my clients care about what I do? Why does what I’m doing make a difference to me, my customers and to the world I live in?

Without understanding the Why, you will never know if the What and the How are on the right track.

Disney’s vision statement is: ‘To make people happy’ (their Why).

Their Why guides their whole organisation to know What to do and How to do it.

If it doesn’t make people happy then they don’t do it, it’s that simple.

How they achieve their Why is running theme parks that completely wow their visitors. Their Why is evident in every part of their How from the booking process through to their firework displays.

North Star

Without a strong Why to act like a north star, guiding your business, you and your team will not know what direction they are going, what the right decisions are to make, and your clients will not clearly know why they should do business with you over your competitors.

All businesses must first understand their Why and then spend every day trying to achieve it.
